Testimonials

SARAH WOODHOUSE, DVM
DIPL. ACZM
FORMER VETERINARIAN AT THE DETROIT ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY

“We enjoyed hosting and teaching Gabriel immensely.  He asked excellent questions and sparked interesting discussion. He made every effort to complete any task that was given to him, often exceeding our expectations with his work.  Gabriel was continuously looking for the opportunity to practice his clinical skills, and he took instruction well. He used his time wisely, and he used every opportunity he was given to its fullest extent.

Gabriel is a gregarious person who is easy to get along with and has a good sense of humor.  Our entire department had a good rapport with him, and frankly, we were sad to send him on to his next externship.

Gabriel demonstrates a sincere and fervent interest in zoo and wildlife medicine, having done externships at numerous zoos, doubtless at significant personal expense, time, and energy.”

WM. KIRK SUEDMEYER, DVM
DIPL. ACZM
HEAD VETERINARIAN AT THE KANSAS CITY ZOO AND AQUARIUM

“Gabriel has performed well beyond our expectations. He is a sincere, intelligent and wildly popular individual. His level of knowledge about veterinary medicine and surgery and how it applies to the exotic animal field is exemplary! I would strongly recommend him for any position he applies for. Gabriel performs at a very high level of knowledge and skill; his surgical skills, though limited here, were at the level of students who have had more experience or focus on surgery. His personality and sense of humor are contagious; his technical skills and common sense were welcomed additions to our programs. Gabriel is well on his way to becoming a zoo veterinarian.”

JOSÉ LUIZ CATÃO-DIAS, DVM, MSc, PhD
Full Professor of Comparative Pathology
School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences
University of São Paulo

“Mr. Duarte demonstrated interest in zoo and wildlife animal medicine since the beginning of veterinary school in 2015. He was a very engaged and proactive veterinary student, inside and outside the classroom. He participated in the Student Study Group for Zoo and Wild Animals of the University of São Paulo (GEAS USP), as in other academic groups and councils. Along with school, Mr. Duarte used every opportunity he had to learn more and become a better-prepared veterinarian.”

Be a Part of Making This Dream a Reality

Hi, my name is Gabriel and I’m a recent veterinary graduate from Brazil. Since I joined the Vet School in Brazil, my goal was to be a Zoo Vet, and with some help from my university, including a scholarship, I was able to visit the US and serve as a vet student in multiple institutions, confirming that my goal was truly what my heart desired to do (and I have never been so happy).

With that, I’m still trying to carve my path towards my goal of being a Zoo Vet and working in the USA.

To be able to do that, I need to do (and pass) a few exams, such as the ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) certification program, the NAVLE and, once accepted, get a State Licence to work.

The good news is that I’m halfway done with the ECFVG exam:

Step 1: Register, provide proof of graduation, and verify veterinary college credentials ✅
Step 2: Assess English language ability ✅
Step 3: Assess basic and clinical veterinary science knowledge (BCSE EXAM)
Step 4: Assess hands-on clinical veterinary medical skills (CPE EXAM)

The not so good news is that the CPE EXAM on its own is very expensive – $7,630 (USD); ($7,430 CPE Application fee + $200 Administrative fee) – and I cannot take the exams in Brazil, meaning I need to go to the US for those steps (including BCSE, CPE and NAVLE).

I’m asking for help so I can chase my dream and apply for those exams.

In return, for all the help, I pledge to give back to the US community – through donations to humanitarian causes – the same amount I get in donations for my cause, during my first years as a worker in the USA.

Thanks for your help, and if possible, share with your friends!
